about
Our debut recording arrives sooner than anticipated. We’ve been recording our first album, but the virus has brought things to a standstill along with wiping out our spring gigging schedule. So we’re releasing an early version of an album track, recorded half in a studio and half in a spare room. Truly a product of these strange times!
“Black Train” was originally written as a response to the Carter Family song “Little Black Train”. The Carter tune (and many like it in the American songbook) seems to say, “Death’s coming, get ready.” Our tune is the antithesis — while the song may sound eerie and foreboding it’s actually a call for perseverance. We thought it a fitting message for a time that’s asking a lot of people.
We’re sharing this track for free but welcome “tips” to help offset our COVID-related losses.
last light crows are cutting cross the west sky
but mostly it's as empty as a long sigh
all signs are pointing in direction of a steep climb
these mountains without peaks they rise and rise
and i hear the siren split the sky
the rumble and the din, the smoke is blending in with the hurricane
long drive its hours upon hours in the moonlight
when your wheels give out beneath you it's hard times
high roads beckon you for years but you wont hear it and now the
rails out before you and how you fear it
and i hear the siren split the sky
the rumble and the din, the smoke is blending in with the hurricane
black train, not gonna ride on you tonight
not gonna climb aboard your black train
not gonna ride on you tonight
